Grin :: Featuring Daniel Lehnberg, Grin Core

Heads down Coinscrummers – the sun’s on its way back south and it’s time to get back to work.
That may be a little depressing so the only thing we can do to fix it is Grin!
So, with much pleasure, we’re excited to welcome Daniel Lehnberg of Grin Core to Coinscrum on Monday, 2nd September.
In Aug 2016, Someone called Tom Elvis Jedusor (Voldemort’s French name in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter book series) placed the original MimbleWimble white paper on a bitcoin research channel, and then disappeared.
Tom’s white paper “Mimblewimble” (a tongue-tying curse used in “The Deathly Hallows”) was a blockchain proposal that could theoretically increase privacy, scalability and fungibility.
Grin is one of the first open source software projects that implements a MimbleWimble blockchain and fills the gaps required for a full blockchain and cryptocurrency deployment.
The main goal and characteristics of the Grin project are:

  • Privacy by default. This enables complete fungibility without precluding the ability to selectively disclose information as needed.
  • Scales mostly with the number of users and minimally with the number of transactions , resulting in a large space saving compared to other blockchains.
  • Strong and proven cryptography. MimbleWimble only relies on Elliptic Curve Cryptography which has been tried and tested for decades.
  • Design simplicity that makes it easy to audit and maintain over time.
  • Community driven, encouraging mining decentralisation.

Daniel will be providing an entry-level overview of Grin’s key features, explaining the key issues that it addresses as well as updating us on the current state of play with the project as a whole.
